Destination: Oslo

Feb24

Choosing the right honeymoon destination can be fun, but intimidating. Do you go classic and spend it somewhere warm and beachy, or do you go someplace exotic and less well known? Well, we're here to expand your horizon, and find the destination that is truly you.

Every week we feature a new location that you may not have considered to spend the first few weeks of your new life.

This weeks destination: Oslo, Norway

It's no secret that we have a soft spot for Norway (as evidenced here, here, and here), so we figured it was about time you were charmed by it too. Oslo is not only the largest city in Norway, it is also one of the largest in all of Scandinavia.

Suggested Activities:

  • Vigeland Sculpture Park: Located inside of Oslo's Frogner Park, this 80 acre stretch of land is famous for its 212 statues made out of bronze and granite by sculptur Gustav Vigeland. The most famous attraction in the park is The Monolith, a giant column made out of 121 naked human bodies that are rising into the heavens.
  • Holmenkollen: Couples looking for a more adventurous activity on their honeymoon will adore Holmenkollen. For over 100 years Holmenkollen has been famous for its skiing, thanks to the hilly terrain, and is home to the Holmenkollen ski jump - the world's second oldest ski jump.
  • Aker Brygge: An old shipping port and industrial hub in the 1800s, the buildings and surrounding area have since been revitalized as one of Oslo's most scenic and popular shopping districts.
  • Operahuset: A modern architectural masterpiece, the Operahuset was completed in 2007 and won the culture award at the World Architecture Festival in 2008. Check out their website for their full 2009 program.
  • Oslo City Hall: A worldwide landmark not only for its political importance, but because it acts as the hosting site for the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, which takes place every December.
  • Oslofjord: Of course, no trip to Norway is complete without an excursion to one of the country's fjords. Oslofjord is famous for hosting top-tier powerboat racing championships and for being the body of water that is in the background of Edvard Munch's infamous painting, the Scream.
