Following celebrity weddings and reading glamorous bridal magazines can be a lot of fun, but nothing’s more helpful than learning how real brides plan their big day. With that in mind, meet OWD's Real Brides: real OurWeddingDay.com brides-to-be sharing their experiences every day. It’s not about the “right” way to plan; it’s about each bride planning the wedding that’s right for her.
Hi! My name is Kristianne and I’ve been engaged now for about a year and a half. I’ve been planning my wedding since I was five. No really, I think I knew what my dress would look like long before I was able to understand what a wedding/marriage was. I was one of those little girls that watched Disney movies and sighed at the end when the prince and the princess get married and then came the words “happily ever after”.
Fast forward about seventeen or so years and things haven’t changed that much. I still sigh at the end of sappy movies and still get dragged into "happily ever after." So it comes as no shock to anyone that the themes of my wedding are fairy tale, Cinderella, and happily ever after.
I don’t know what I was thinking at the time but I set my original date as December 4, 2010. A month ago, after realizing that I graduate from college in May, we made the big decision to move the wedding up a year. Two problems though: my original church is booked through March 2010 and my cake serving set is engraved for the original ’10 date.
I had wanted to be married in the Chapel where my high school ring/grad ceremony was held. It is gorgeous. All the times I had imagined my wedding, I had been imagining it there. But I want to marry Jay and as of now 2010 is not an option. I’m sure you brides know how I feel! So I called my home church and booked them for my date. Now when I think about it, it really worked out for the better because the church has been part of important days in my family. I was baptized and confirmed there, my parents got married there, etc. We’ve just started Marriage prep with the priest and we took our compatibility inventory. We get the results tomorrow!
As for the serving set…I lost my receipt so thank goodness we both have a great sense of humor!
