Our favorite pop culture nerds, The A.V. Club, share their personal stories every Friday when they respond to readers' questions. They call it the "AVCQ&A."
A reader wrote in, "With my August 8th wedding date rapidly approaching, my fiancée and I have been trying to arrange the final details of our ceremony. One of these has involved picking music and (possibly?) poetry that we would like played/read during our wedding. This got me to thinking, what pieces of pop culture would The A.V. Club like to have displayed at their own weddings? If already married, what music or literature did you have at your wedding?"
The responses offer funny and touching inspiration for wedding songs and expressions of love, both classic and quirky.

Wild Is The Wind by David Bowie
When we posted about the best makeout music the other day, we nominated Nina Simone's "Wild Is The Wind," but though it may be perfect for an intimate setting, her version sounds a bit exposed for a public reception.
"Wild Is the Wind" was origonally performed by Johnny Mathis in 1957, and has since been covered or sampled by countless others, including Barbra Streisand, George Michael, Cat Power and TV On The Radio. Nina Simone's breathtaking version is often considered the most essential one, but we also have a soft spot for David Bowie's blue-eyed soul take on it.
Recorded for his 1976 album Station To Station, Bowie's interpretation feels ripped from an unreleased 70's musical: All swooning romanticism and killer rock star swagger.
Check out Lemondrop's sexy and silly quest for the best makeout music. You might not want to play them all at your reception, but they could soundtrack a nice "break" from all your planning!
We love some of their surprising choices (especially Cocteau Twins, The Beach Boys and Echo & The Bunnymen!), but the list is hardly complete without Nina Simone's "Wild Is The Wind" or This Mortal Coil's "Song to the Siren."
We love Ryan Adams, even when he's on the verge of being overly prolific, but his newest offering is right up our alley: his first "Valentine's Day" record, just released today, called Extra Cheese. The EP is a best-of of sorts, but also features a previously unreleased track called "Hey There, Mrs. Lovely". You can find it now exclusively on iTunes!
Your initial response when browsing the list of 150-plus songs may be, huh? The selections (or, rather, obvious omissions) are puzzling. But that's what makes it interesting in the end, and it's also a great way to remind yourself of beautiful country love songs that you may have forgotten, old and new.

Modern Nature by Sondre Lerche
Sondre Lerche might have a small frame, but the voice that emerges is larger than life. This Norwegian's music flavor can be described as pop with a dash of rock and a pinch of jazz. Modern Nature comes off of Lerche's 2001 debut album Faces Down. With guest vocals from Lillian Samdal, this is a duet that's hard not to fall in love with, or to.
