5 Advantages of Wedding Cupcakes

Feb24

We've all heard of wedding cakes, but one trend that is increasing in popularity is wedding cupcakes. Cupcakes can be more fun and lighthearted than the classic wedding cake, and are a great way to add a personal, memorable touch to your big day.

  1. You can have many different flavors. At the normal rate of wedding cake prices, you can usually choose two to three flavors (depending on how many layers your cake is). With wedding cupcakes, you can have a lot more variety, and guests can even choose which flavor they want.
  2. Each cupcake is individually decorated. By the time you get a slice of cake at a wedding, the decoration on it has probably been marred. With cupcakes, each one is individually decorated and its artfulness is not spoiled by cutting and serving.
  3. It is not as time consuming to cut and serve the cupcakes. It takes quite a bit of time (as well as a few staff members) to cut and serve a wedding cake. If you serve wedding cupcakes, it is much simpler, less time consuming, and more efficient. If you have a cupcake bar, guests can serve themselves.
  4. If you have a lot of kids at your wedding, they will be sure to love them! Cupcakes may be the highlight of the wedding for some kids.
  5. Guests can take cupcakes home in a box if they are too full after the meal. Often, in the aftermath of a wedding reception, there are up to hundreds of pieces of untouched (or barely touched) pieces of cake lying on the tables. Guests can take cupcakes home in a to-go container to enjoy later in the evening, or the next day.

Trend Alert!: Tea Length Wedding Dresses

Nov16

With today's wedding fashion expanding faster than we can keep up with, choosing a wedding dress that stands out from the rest is easier than ever. One of the latest trends to hit the aisle is the tea length wedding dress. This style exudes a fun, form fitting, vintage vibe and comes in more styles than you may be aware of.

Strapless
Strapless tea length wedding dresses are the perfect mixture of cute, fun, and sexy. Any time you show off your shoulders, collarbone, and neck you raise your sultriness ten-fold. Choose a strapless tea length wedding dress if you want to show some skin in the most adorable way possible. This style is a great option for a tea length beach wedding dress, because it’s more suitable for warm weather.

Lace
Choose a lace tea length wedding dress if you want to go vintage. Ivory or any off-white shade accentuates this style further giving it a worn, antique look. If you love lace but want a more modern style, then choose a simple lace in pure white.

Romantic
If a more flowy, feminine style of tea length dress is what you’re searching for then make sure it has the following criteria: spaghetti straps, empire waist, and chiffon fabric. Slip on matching stilettos and add some flowers to your up-do and you’ll be the ultimate romantic dream.

How To Tastefully Use Social Media at Your Wedding

Nov09

Check out this new Mashable article, How To Tastefully Use Social Media at Your Wedding.

"As social media becomes more and more a part of our lives, etiquette failures can occur when there are so few precedents.

"A wedding day is the perfect example of this. You want to share your special day with your social circle, especially those who can’t attend, but where do you draw the line?

"We’ve talked to experts in the wedding industry and a recent bride to try and establish the ground rules for tastefully using social media at your wedding."

See what their experts had to say here.

We've had a lot to say in the past about how technology and social media can be used in sweetly celebratory and inclusive ways (live video feeds, for example) and how they can be used in ways that is completely inappropriate (like Twittering at the altar), and we feel thrilled to see pretty much eye-to-eye with Mashable on this.  A good read!

Hong Kong McDonald's to Offer Wedding Packages

Oct13

Do you have especially fond memories of your 9th birthday party under the golden arches? Then McDonald's Hong Kong has the wedding package of your dreams!

The package has all the details to attract a wedding banquet cynic or a Golden Arches obsessive: a baked apple pie wedding cake, dress made out of party balloons, kiddie party favors for guests, and of course, catering by McDonald’s.

Alcohol is banned to make sure there won’t be drunk party guests acting inappropriately at the family venue, so newly weds will have to toast their union with soft drinks instead.

The cost will be a few thousand Hong Kong dollars, depending on what guests order on the spot. It’s unlikely that the couple will be able to book the entire restaurant for their wedding, but at that price, who cares if there are babies screaming in the booth next doors?

Plus, a Happy Meal can make a wonderful keepsake for your guests! [via CNN International]

It all reminds us of the couple who married at the Taco Bell, and when marriage hit Starbucks not once, but twice!

Reality Show to Combine Weddings & Extreme Plastic Surgery

Sep16

The Hollywood Reporter is, er... reporting, that E! channel has ordered "an extreme plastic surgery bridal competition reality show" called Bridalplasty. [via The Hollywood Reporter]

Here's the low-down: Each week will find a group of brides-to-be participating in challenges such as “writing wedding vows and planning honeymoons,” with the winner given the chance to choose a plastic surgery procedure from her plastic surgery “wish list” and thus be transformed into “the perfect bride.”

Classy!

Considering pre-wedding plastic surgery is nothing new, of course, but it is complicated. This show will likely not focus on minor procedures and slight imperfections.  Almost certainly it will focus on dramatic unveilings of completely new faces and bodies.

We all want to look our best on our wedding day... but we still want to look like ourselves, don't we?  Our grooms should recognize us at the altar, right!?!?

Stream a Live Video Feed on Your Wedding Day

Sep10

Nowadays, people anywhere in the world can attend your wedding—sort of. Live wedding feeds are the latest trend to hit the ceremony circuit, and they’re getting more popular all the time. The benefits of live feeds are enormous: if your relatives in Europe can’t attend your wedding for whatever reason (cost, obligations, illness, etc.) they can watch it in the privacy of their own home. Live wedding feeds are an especially nice idea for aging friends and loved ones who would never be able see your ceremony otherwise.

There are several ways to go about streaming your wedding. Your videographer generally does not offer this feature as part of his package deal, although he might partner with a company that streams. You can also do a search for live feeds, and find a company that offers the service. Many of them contact videographers in your area and work together on the project.

You can also purchase equipment that connects to your computer to streaming servers, or rent an entire laptop streaming kit. Prices will vary, ranging anywhere from about $200 to $800. Live chat is generally available if problems arise, and companies offer viewing for a limited time period after the ceremony. Find out, too, if you can have a recorded copy of the event as a keepsake. There are also different ranges of how many people can watch—usually up to about 50, so ask ahead of time and get everything in writing.

Since live wedding feeds are still a novel concept, it’s recommended that you hire a pro for your ceremony, as opposed to trying to handle the streaming yourself. If the two of you are computer whizzes, or you have a close friend you’d like to do it, feel free to go DIY, but practice ahead of time to make sure all glitches have been taken care of. Make sure that someone is responsible for set-up and operation on the actual day of your ceremony.

When you consider the benefits of live feeds, it’s a wonderful addition to your wedding plans. If your affair is small and easily accessible to all who are invited, it’s probably not worth the extra cash. Go over your guest list, figure out your budget, and then feed the love!
