Peggy Olson Got Married!

Oct26

Ivanka who?

Only a couple weeks after we told you about stunning Christina ("Joan") Henricks' wedding, her Mad Men co-star Elisabeth ("Peggy Olson") Moss ties the knot! (Check out Joan's wedding diet here.)

This morning on The View it was announced that Elisabeth Moss and Saturday Night Live's Fred Armisen got married on Sunday, October 25.

Congratulations Elisabeth & Armisen!

"Altarcations" with Ivanka Trump

Oct26

Every blog in the world seemed to announce Ivanka Trump & Jared Kushner's wedding this weekend.  Ours didn't though, because we really didn't want to have to think about her annoying father.

But it's not fair, we know, to punish the daughter for the sins of the father, and now one of our favorite bloggers, Phyllis Nefler, has brought the whole thing front and center in her awesome, weekly Gawker feature, "Altarcations."

It wasn't all about Ivanka & Jared this weekend: Nefler reminds us that other people got married too!  There's Lori Schulweis, the infamous production coordinator for Regis & Kelly, a real-life "Ms. Manners," and a couple whose "Featured Video" was actually watched by someone!

Check out this week's Altarcations here.

Is Karen the Worst Bridezilla Ever?

Oct26

We've provided guides on how NOT to be a Bridezilla a couple of times, but apparently we need to create a third guide... one that reminds brides to be not to publicly mock any disabled guests in attendance.

Wow.  This Karen is a real piece of work: first she hates "poor people," and now this!

Check out the video here.

We really don't like her.

Science Recommends You Marry an Older, Less-Educated Man

Oct26

The Telegraph is reporting a new "successful marriage" study, originally published in the European Journal of Operational Research.  Here's a taste:

"Scientists tracked 1,000 couples who were either married or in serious relationships over five years and then looked for patterns among those who were still together.

"They found that neither should have been divorced in the past, the man should be five or more years older and the woman should have received more education than the man.

"...Men and women choose partners “on the basis of love, physical attraction, similarity of taste, beliefs and attitudes, and shared values," but that using “objective factors” such as age, education and cultural origin “may help reduce divorce.”

Check out the full story here.

Of course, there's plenty to criticize about this study and how it's being reported on: Implying that intelligence and education are the same thing, and framing the questions almost entirely for the grooms-to-be, for starters.

Read a criticism of this study here.

But we still enjoy reading these studies.  It seems as though a new one is always coming out, and though we wouldn't base our husband choices on them, they usually make for a fun read.
