First Same Sex Wedding in Latin America

Last month a Buenos Aires judgde ruled that marriage laws forbidding same -sex unions were unconstitutional. But two Buenos Aires men who who wanted to marry still found it difficult to find a city official to marry them, so they traveled to the far south to Argentina and got married, historically becoming the first married same-sex couple in Latin America.

The grooms are Alejandro Freyre and Jose Maria Di Bello, and you can check out the story along with a video here.

Lots of Anger About Marriage Rights in This Week's Altarcations

Week after week, we direct you to Phyllis Nefler's witty (and sometimes wicked!) "Altarcations," where she reviews the nuptials featured in The New York Times' Weddings section.

This week's installment featured a lot more frustration from Nefler than usual, though. She writes at length about last week's New York Senate voting 'no' on marriage equality and denying rights to same-sex couples.

Nefler (who is obviously a supporter of marriage equality) writes about The Times' "Spotlighted Love Story," which this week is of Stephen Davis & Jeffrey Busch, a couple of 20 years who recently got married in Connecticut. She believes that The Times' "spotlighting" these men only days after the NY Senate vote was a deliberate response and way to show support for New Yorker's who feel disappointed by their Senate.

After that, the mood of Altarcations lightens up a bit and Nefler delves into other 'Weddings section' stories with her usual humor and affectionate teasing. It's an interesting read, combing the fun and romanticism of modern wedding planning with all the conflicting opinions and views of the "right to marry" debate.

The First Gay Couple Ever on The Newlywed Game Wins!

We had no idea The Newlywed Game was still on, which can't be a good sign for their ratings. If anyone should know a show like that is on the air, it's a wedding-obsessed group like OWD, right?!?

Well, they may get more attention now, because for the first time ever they had a gay married couple on their show (Star Trek's George Takei and his husband of 1 year, boyfriend of 20+ years, Brad Altamn)... and they won!

They're donating their $10,000 winnings to the Japanese American Nation Museum, where their wedding was held last September.
