Entertainment Weekly just posted a fun gallery of 19 Creepy Movie Stalkers which includes many of the usual suspects, and at least one surprising choice: Meg Ryan in Sleepless In Seattle.
They explain: Let the record show: Ryan's Annie fell for a man (Tom Hanks) she only knew from a radio call-in show. She sent him an admiring letter, flew 2,300 miles to spy on him, and then suggested that they rendezvous at the top of the Empire State Building. Apparently, director Nora Ephron couldn't dig up a Jimmy Durante tune evocative of a restraining order.
That got us thinking of other films that some think are sweet, and others creepy. The first one that came to mind was PS, I Love You. That's the one where Hillary Swank received letters from her recently departed husband. That's not cute, that's creepy!
It also got us thinking of last August, when we posted about the least-romantic songs that often get played at weddings.
Have you ever been shocked to realize a bit of romantic pop culture was really a lot darker than you first thought?
