Vermont's state legislature overrode the veto of their Governor and became the 4th state in the nation to offer gay marriage (five if you count California). At the same time, the Washington D.C. city council voted to recognize same-sex unions from other states, joining New York and Rhode Island. In fact, when you throw in states which recognize out-of-state same sex unions, 12 percent of the country (by population) can get married regardless of their gender. That's not a small number by any means. The question is, has gay marriage reached a tipping point?

Marc Jacobs, one of the most celebrated fashion designers in the world, just became engaged to Lorenzo Martone. They've been together for about 1 year.
Jacobs' mainly lives in New York, where same sex marriage is not yet legal, so the couple may marry elsewhere in the country or abroad. When they come home it won't be a problem however, because New York's Gov. David Paterson has told state agencies to recognize same-sex marriages performed in states and countries where they are legal.
Congratualtions to the happy couple! It's safe to assume that Jacobs will make sure they both look great on their big day!
